Bio

Lisa Diedrich is professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stony Brook University. Her research and teaching interests include critical medical studies, disability studies, graphic medicine, feminist science studies, and interdisciplinary feminist and queer theories and methodologies. She is the author of Indirect Action: Schizophrenia, Epilepsy, AIDS, and the Course of Health Activism (Minnesota, 2016) and Treatments: Language, Politics, and the Culture of Illness (Minnesota, 2007), and the editor (with Victoria Hesford) of Feminist Time Against Nation Time (Lexington, 2008). She is currently working on two projects: an edited collection with Briana Martino called Keywords/images in Graphic Medicine (under contract with Penn State University Press) and a monograph called #IllnessPolitics, which explores illness and disability in action on social media, analyzing several popular hashtags as examples of how illness figures, conceptually and strategically, in recent U.S. politics.
